Our new faces award uncovers new talents, places them into the limelight and turns them into stars. Since 1998, on the eve of the German film awards ceremony in Berlin, the BUNTE “New faces film night” has recognised the skills of new generations of actors who have attracted the attention of the media through their first principal role in a cinema production.
The five million readers of BUNTE and BUNTE.T-Online are invited to vote on the phone and on the web for their favourite new actor of the year.
A prestigious jury, meanwhile, picks the best new director. This 10,000 euro prize was first set up by Patricia Riekel, BUNTE editor-in-chief, and Philipp Welte, Managing Director of the Burda People Group, and has since become a key talent spotter for the German film and television industries.
Daniel Brühl, Jessica Schwarz, Bettina Zimmermann and Matthias Schweighöfer are just a handful of winners of this prize who have gone on to develop successful careers.
