Hubert Burda, a company rooted in family values, has been fine-tuning its corporate social responsibility now for decades. In 1999, all of the social, cultural and scientific activities of the company were brought together under the umbrella of the Hubert Burda Foundation. President of the foundation Dr Christa Maar is currently responsible for five individual foundations which work towards specific goals.
One of these causes is the Hermann Lenz Prize which is awarded to outstanding works of literature. In 1994, the Burda Academy for the Third Millennium was founded as an interdisciplinary forum bringing together renowned specialists in culture and science. The Felix Burda Foundation, meanwhile, was set up in 2001 to support activities for the prevention of intestinal cancer. The Iconic Turn lectures focus on cross-disciplinary debate on the topic of imagery, while the Centre for Innovation Communications at Ben Gurion University, established in 1999 by Hubert Burda, furthers intercultural exchange.
In addition to the above, Hubert Burda Media awards numerous prizes, sponsors creativity and innovation, and supports a host of relief projects.
