Germany’s most important media award goes to British fashion designer

Designer Christopher Bailey is considered the inventor of a new Brit Chic style, with collections combining British coolness, fresh rock-’n’-roll elements and fine tailoring. His extraordinary success is now honored with the Fashion BAMBI 2007. The down-to-earth design star will receive Germany’s most important media award in Düsseldorf on November 29, 2007.

Christopher Bailey grew up in Yorkshire and studied fashion design at the University of Westminster and the Royal College of Art in London. After graduating, he joined the team of Donna Karan in New York City. At age 25, he moved on to Tom Ford and later to Gucci in Milan, where he was responsible for the women’s collection. Since he became head of design at Burberry’s six years ago, the company’s turnover has more than doubled. Bailey fans include stars like Gwyneth Paltrow, Sienna Miller, Tom Cruise, Uma Thurman, Robbie Williams, Sarah Jessica Parker, Brad Pitt and even Queen Elisabeth II. He was named British Designer of the Year in 2005.

Presented by comedian Harald Schmidt, the 59th award ceremony takes place in Düsseldorf on November 29, 2007.
