In the course of the integration and restructuring of the two publishing houses Arabellastraße and Burda People Group into Burda Style Group (see press release of 7.4.09), the editing of ELLE Decoration is being incorporated in that of ELLE. The scope and publishing frequency of ELLE Decoration will remain unaffected by this.
On 1 July 2009 the Editor-in-chief of the fashion magazine ELLE, Sabine Nedelchev, will also be taking on the position of Editor-in-chief of ELLE Decoration. The previous Editor-in-chief, Eva Schaeffer, is withdrawing from the hands-on day-to-day business and will be acting as adviser to Sabine Nedelchev in future. Schaeffer became deputy Editor-in-chief of the magazine in 1993 and has been its Editor-in-chief since 2002. Before that she had already been working for Burda from 1969 to 1989. She has managed to keep the most successful interior design magazine in the world constantly at the top of the high-end interior design magazines in Germany in terms of both advertising and sales. The Board of Hubert Burda Media is grateful to Eva Schaeffer for her extremely successful work.
The integration of the editing of ELLE Decoration is an integral part of the publishing board division’s CHANGE programme, "Integrate". Publishing CEO Philipp Welte initiated the programme of change for the publishing houses, marketing and sales divisions with the three strategic dimensions Concentrate, Integrate, Innovate. The central aim is to steer the publishing division through the recession and in doing so orientate it to a convergent future in spite of the revenue crisis. A further three more posts are expected to be dispensed with under the integration. They are part and parcel of the staff measures already announced in the course of the merger of the two Munich publishing houses.
Published in 42 editions and with over 5 million copies sold, ELLE is the world’s leading fashion magazine. It is read in more than 90 countries and is one of the biggest and best known media brands in the world. With a total circulation of 208,571 copies (IVW l/09) and a coverage of 600,000 readers (MA 2009/I), it is also Number 1 in the luxury segment of monthly women’s magazines in Germany.
