Keeping in sync

Job satisfaction comes from two sources: exciting assignments and a positive work environment. This is why Hubert Burda Media make a point of enabling their staff to combine professional objectives and private interests in the best-possible manner.

According to Ursula von der Leyen, Federal Minister for Family Affairs, Burda is a “role model and trendsetter” in the field of work-life balance. The certification as a particularly family-friendly business rewarded to Hubert Burda Media honors the company’s support of the child-care facility “Burda Gang” and its different working time models that allow employees to organize work flexibly.

As part of the work-life balance program, Hubert Burda Media also offer their staff a recreational sports program, doctors and trainers for regular health checks, and a platform for people with the same interests and hobbies.

To combine work and family is a key challenge for many working parents. Hubert Burda Media tries to assist staff in their effort to get ahead at work and bring up children at the same time. “Burda Gang” has received several awards for pedagogical excellence and exemplary organization. The company nursery, which was designed according to parents’ requirements, has meanwhile become Munich’s largest facility of this nature.

It is a priority at Hubert Burda Media to provide full support to employees wishing to start a family. This includes flexible working hours during pregnancy and following maternity leave.

Health and fitness are also an essential part of the corporate culture. An additional benefit is that people get to know colleagues from other departments. “Burda runs!” in Munich and “Burda in Motion” in Offenburg are sports events at which staff and their families go for a run together. “Burda Sport Club” offers several different sports, ranging from tennis to gymnastics or skiing.

Also on offer are a smoking cessation program and a comprehensive health check-up with an individual sports and diet plan and twelve weeks of coaching for each participating employee. With March being the colon cancer awareness month, the company’s focus is then on cooperating with the Felix Burda Foundation to prevent colon cancer. Staff can also participate in sports events like “Burda Winter Games”, “Burda Mountain Bike Tour” and “Burda Beach Cup” or join the golf club or soccer club.
