Publisher Hubert Burda rearranges the responsibilities on his holding’s Board of Directors. When Jürgen Todenhöfer leaves the company in November, his division will be divided up and managed as follows:
Paul-Bernhard Kallen, Director Technology and Treasury, will in future also be responsible for the divisions Finance & Administration with the profit centers Burda Services (Controlling, Finance and Accounting, Human Resources) and Burda Procurement Center (Logistics Services, Real Estate Management) as well as Burda Eastern Europe. The division also includes: Burda Druck, Tomorrow Focus AG, Burda Digital, Burda Holding International and CHIP Holding. Kallen is also on the Management Board of Action Capital Partners. The independent private equity company, a spin-off of the successful Burda Digital Ventures, is currently developing a second fund (“Heureka Growth Fund”) in which Hubert Burda Media is one of the investors.
The intention of connecting Direct Marketing and Cross Media more closely led to the decision to assign Burda Direct Group in Offenburg, one of Europe’s major multimedia digital marketing and customer service companies, to the Cross Media division headed by Christiane zu Salm. With its digital business operations and more than 13 million active customers, it is an important element in the e-commerce strategy of Burda’s cross-media grid. The Cross Media division also includes R&D, Marketing & Communications, Sixth Floor Productions, Burda Internet TV Productions as well as the publishing-related digital holdings and future TV activities.
Philipp Welte will return to the company on January 1, 2009, as the Director Publishing Houses. He will take over Todenhöfer’s areas Publishing, Marketing and Distribution. In 2007 and 2008, Welte worked for Axel Springer AG, initially as the Chairman of the Board of BILD T-Online AG and since the beginning of this year as the Chief Marketing Officer and Managing Director responsible for setting up the marketing company Axel Springer Media Impact. By appointing Welte, publisher Hubert Burda complements the Board of Director by an experienced publishing manager. Welte was with Hubert Burda Media from 1994 until the end of 2006, most recently as the Managing Director of Burda People Group. His major achievements include the revival of BUNTE, together with Editor-in-Chief Patricia Riekel, and the highly successful launch of the German edition of INSTYLE. Welte’s new division will include Burda People Group, Verlag Arabellastrasse, Medien Park Verlage Offenburg, Verlagsgruppe Berlin, Burda Community Network, Burda Medien Vertrieb, Burda Publishing Center, Sales Community and Burda Yukom. During the interim period between Todenhöfer’s resignation and Welte’s return, the profit centers of the publishing division will report directly to publisher Hubert Burda.
No changes are made for the division Focus, Broadcast, Lifestyle Community of First Journalist Helmut Markwort, with the profit centers Focus Magazin Verlag, Focus TV, Burda Broadcast Media, Burda Lifestyle Community, Playboy Deutschland, Publishing, Verlagsgruppe Milchstrasse as well as for the legal division headed by associated Board Member Robert Schweizer.
