Thanks to its high-growth investments, innovative communities and strong editorial brands, Hubert Burda Media is well prepared for the digital future. In the fiscal year 2008, the business division Digital accounted for external sales of € 340.5 million, up from € 274.5 million in 2007. This corresponds to a share in group sales of 19.5 percent, making the digital business the company’s second mainstay, outperformed only by the publishing division.
Burda Digital brings together the expertise of a successful media group and the future market of digital business – as a consulting and technology service provider, a venture capitalist as well as a mobile services and interactive community provider.
The foundation was laid as early as 1966 when the first punch card machine in the Offenburg administration revolutionized data processing. Since then, Burda Digital Systems has shaped the company’s digital future as a technology service provider and consulting unit; it is responsible for integrating all group locations into one network. Through Burda Digital Ventures, Hubert Burda Media has been investing in digital businesses for almost a decade. Today the successful portfolio is managed by the investment company Acton Capital Partners.
The stock-listed TOMORROW FOCUS AG with its business units Portal, E-Commerce and Technologies is among Germany’s leading providers of digital media content.
Today Hubert Burda Media has one of the leading consumer technology communities, which generates revenues of approximately € 280 million. One of the cornerstones is CHIP Holding with various magazines and digital media catering to the computer and communications market. In addition, CYBERPORT and COMPUTERUNIVERSE, two leading European online shops for IT and electronics products, contribute to the group’s success.
Burda is the German joint venture partner and an investor in GLAM, the world’s leading internet media network with more than 100 million users a month and over 900 publishers. Only a few months after the market entry, the German publishers’ network reached 3.3 million users (ComScore) in spring 2009, making it the number one in the target group Women/Lifestyle on the German-language Internet.
The international innovation conference DLD (Digital – Life – Design) brings together members of the digital community and Hubert Burda Media’s brand worlds: Since 2005, guests have gathered in Munich for an interdisciplinary exchange of ideas.
